Cabo San Lucas Part 1

We recently returned from a trip to Mexico. This year we went to Cabo San Lucas. Our trip to Cozumel was cancelled due to hurricane Wilma - as was everyone else's. The RIU Palace was almost fully booked during a normally slow time before the big December crowds
There were at least four buses from the airport to that hotel, and that was just from our plane. The RUI Palace is freakin' huge! I will admit though that we rarely had any trouble finding a spot to sit and the buffet restaurant was never full.
We spent the first couple of days just hanging around the hotel in the pool and on the beach. The water was quite rough and the boats and waverunners constantly being beached make swimming a bit dangerous. Fortunately, unlike in Cancun and Cozumel, the pool was heated and almost as warm as the ocean.
Cabo is obviously a major cruise ship stop and there was almost always a cruise ship anchored outside the harbour. We even saw the same ship a couple of times.
We were not far from town and walked down the beach one afternoon toward town looking for a safe place to swim. We almost got to Cabo before we did find a spot where the surf was calm enough to easily get in and out of the water, but the boats racing by still made me nervous. There are water taxis everywhere and always someone trying to give you a ride. They pull up to the beach, you jump in, and you go. This saved us from walking back to the hotel.
By the fourth day we got out of the hotel on a local tour of San Jose Del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, and all the golf courses in between (there are many). The highlight for Matthew was going to the glass blowing factory where he got to blow some glass. Just a few weeks before this he had decided that he wanted to be a glass blower when he grew up. He has a future in large paper thin glass blobs.
The tour took us to all the popular shopping locations, including a large tourist market in Cabo that is frequented by the cruise ship passengers. Apparently they raise their prices just before the cruise ships arrive. Fortunately we were there on a slow day and got a few items that we haggled down to slightly less over priced.
Stay tuned for more updates from out trip.
