Sky Diving

My brother and his family decided it would be fun to go sky diving one weekend. Apparently you can just drive out to Abbotsford, get five minutes of instruction, and jump out of a plane (tandem, of course). Unfortunately, there was a significant delay due to the clouds so we all went shopping for a few hours and weren't even sure they would be able to jump that day. The weather finally improved enough that a few plane loads were able to jump, but I think it limited their altitude and freefall time.

Don't they look cool in their jumpsuits? Hey... jumpsuit... I get it.

The plane doesn't immediately make you think of skydiving, but something about it suggests wearing a parachute and getting out as quickly as possible.

The plane is actually very suited for this use. It has a very short takeoff and landing distance and can climb quite quickly. The site is on what I'm sure is an old farm. They paved a strip and call that the runway.

Finally they got to jump. Well, not finally, of course, that would be bad, the landings are below, but this is all of them jumping. I say all of them because it could be any of them so they are each equally right in claiming it is them jumping out of a plane. Actually it is none of them jumping out of a place because, as it was described to me, it is more like hanging out of the plane while you wait for your instructor to jump.

Tika, Ria, Kadek, and Kiyo in flight.

Kiyo Landing.

Ria Landing.

Tika Landing.

Kadek Landing.

After all the waiting (and cost) all they get to show for it is the certificates and these photos. Oh, and possibly the important skills, should they need them in an emergency, of jumping out of a plane with nothing but a skydiving instructor strapped to their back.
