Canada Day on Galiano

We went to Galiano for the annual Canada Day Jamboree at the North End Hall. I think we go just about every year. They have a parade, food, games, contests, and pony rides.
Matthew's team had a strong start in this race but once things went wrong there was no chance of recovery.
We didn't stay long at the Jamboree, but I think Matthew wore himself out.

Here is a regular visitor at Kiyo and Annie's place. The deer are a bit of a pest, eating the plants in Annie's garden, but still cool to watch for us city folk.

This slightly dim owl finally got the hint. We surprised him once on the path down to the beach. He flew further down the path only to be startled by us again... and again. Eventually he caught on and flew off into the trees away from the path.

Kiyo got a call from the Salt Spring Island Wildlife Care Centre about a baby seal pup needing a ride from Galiano. Someone found it on the beach without a mother and having trouble swimming. We tagged along for the ride.
The day was finally completed with a marshmallow roast. Matthew, being relatively new to the hot flaming marshmallow, was taught some of the finest secrets in roasting technique.
And, of course, there was the ferry ride home just in time to catch the sunset.
