Day 7 in Australia

Unfortunately we had to leave Moreton Island first thing in the morning. We had a flight to catch in the afternoon and the ferry schedule isn't very frequent. Though it is flexible if you miss it - you can see in the GPS track log from the day before that after we left the island we turned around to return for a couple that missed the boat.

Fortunately, we had enough time in Brisbane to visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary before our flight back to New Zealand. As you can imagine they have a lot of Koalas and one of the main reasons we went is that you can hold a Koala (Not before they charge you to take your picture).

Matthew didn't get to hold a Koala (he is still bitter) but he did get to check it out. Here he is feeling its claws.

It's not all about Koalas at the Koala Sanctuary. There are various displays of animals, birds, and reptiles.

And of course the day wouldn't be complete without feeding Kangaroos and Wallabies.



err, well, uh, hmmm...

After we left the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary we headed to the Brisbane international airport, dropped off the car, and sat around for a few more hours in the airport waiting for a plane back to Auckland. Over the course of this vacation we spent almost a full day just sitting around airports. I think airport wait time is inversely proportional to flight speed. Perhaps this is proof that teleportation could never happen - it would be impossible to arrive at the departure port early enough.
