Day 13 in New Zealand

It was finally time to head back to Auckland to get ready for our long trip home. We took the long way back through Waitomo so we could check out the glowworm caves we had seen in all the tourist brochures. I guess it worked. The caves are naturally carved through limestone by flowing water. These are a lot like the caves we visited in Mexico only with glowworms... and these were paved... and they had railings... and we didn't have to wear hard hats because the walls were probably padded.

Oh ya, and were not allowed to take pictures! So, unfortunately, I don't have any good ;-) pictures from inside the caves. It is all a scam to sell pictures in the gift shop - well it didn't work on me.

There is a river that runs through at the bottom of the caves. This is where the glowworms are found. After we followed our guide through the well lit paved path down into the cave we got into a boat which is hand guided out the mouth of the cave you see here. Just inside the cave and around the corner the cave ceiling is covered in glowworms. They look like stars. You will just have to trust me on this, or go to New Zealand and buy a picture of it.

I showed them - I took a picture of their tree! Once this gets out they will have no choice but to let everyone take pictures.
